WHY SHOULD YOU USE TEMPLE’S LIBRARY?
The library at Temple Baptist Church gives you extremely inexpensive access to a variety of media items. For the cost of one or two visits to a video rental store you can check out up to 43 books, tapes, and videos at a time. Although we accept wholesome secular donations, our budget money is spent only on Christian material and we have predominately Christian material. We strive to have only materials that are scripturally sound and promote biblical standards of conduct.
We are willing to work with you as parents if you desire to place limits on what your children may check out without your presence. The library is a ministry that we delight in sharing with Hallstrom families and we have taken great pleasure in seeing so many of you enjoying our books, tapes, and videos. Our library has over 7,500 items — books, videos, and audio tapes!
Anyone can use the library at Temple Baptist Church. If you attend or belong to Temple, you may use the library free of charge. All others may buy a library card good for one calendar year for $16, $12 for the HHSW school year, or $8 per semester.
Layout
Temple’s library is found in two locations. Books, videos, and tapes for preschoolers and lower elementary children are found in the Book Express located behind the stage in the Fellowship Hall on the Lower Level. Books for children 0-9 years are shelved in colorful train cars in an environment decorated just for little ones complete with a hammock and large floor pillows. There is also a computer with a Bible game on it that children can play.
Reading materials for older elementary children, junior/senior high, and adults plus videos and audio tapes are found in the Main Library, Room 201, on the Sanctuary Level. Children and Youth materials are color coded according to reading level
Children’s Library, located behind the stage of Fellowship Hall. Children aged 5 and younger need to be accompanied by their own parent.
Cataloguing & Circulation System
Our Main Library collection is catalogued using the Dewey Decimal System. Items can be easily found by referencing our easy-to-use online public access catalog computer (OPAC) or by asking a librarian for help. (It’s the favorite part of my job!). You may also reserve items.
Procedures
No library card is necessary to use the library, but name, address, phone number, and family members’ names must be registered with the librarian on desk duty in the Main Library before checking out materials.
1. Three videos and three audios may be checked out per family. There is a 40 item limit on other materials. Check out time is two weeks; long-term checkout can be arranged with permission. You may renew items twice unless they have been reserved. The overdue fine is $0.25 per item per week. Lost materials must be paid for plus a $2.50 fee for processing and materials.
2. Materials are to be returned to the library from which they were checked out (Main Library or Book Express). During hours the library is closed, books and cassette tapes may be placed in the drop box across from the Main Library.
