MEDIEVAL & RENAISSANCE HISTORY
Grades 3 to 7
Semester Fee: $71
Class Size: Min. 5, Max. 15
This class will be similar to years past. We will cover history from approximately 500 A.D. to 1500 A.D. and includes the lives of kings, queens, knights, monks, artists, writers, and government leaders focusing on the impact each one had on history. We also explore life in a monastery, a castle, and a village along with specific battles and crusades and the Black Death. There will be some weekly homework. Assignments include reading, writing, map work, vocabulary, a time line, and various worksheets. There will be a major project each semester along with some smaller projects through each semester. Periodically there are hands-on learning games during class time as well as hands-on art projects during the Renaissance study.
REQUIRED TEXTS: Fall Semester: Famous Men of the Middle Ages (Greenleaf Press). Spring Semester: Famous Men of the Renaissance and Reformation. (Greenleaf Press). Each of these books cost about $15 new and can be found used on the internet. I may have a few used copies available for sale; please contact me. If you need any ordering information, I have that as well.
 
HANDS ON GEOGRAPHY
Grades 4 to 6
Semester Fee: $65
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 15
This is an overview of world geography. We will learn the names of the seven continents, the major bodies of water, and all countries. Class time will be spent familiarizing ourselves with those names, and discussing culture (language, food, religions, and customs), climate, plants & animals, and some history. The first semester emphasizes the Western Hemisphere with a special focus on the United States. The second semester will be spent on the Eastern Hemisphere. Students will be responsible for a lap book each semester on a country of their choice to further expand their knowledge of that country. Some homework will be required.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: A three-ring binder and pencil, and colored pencils.
 
OUR UNITED STATES
Grades 1 to 3
Semester Fee: $60
Class Size: Min. 5, Max. 15
During the first semester students will learn the history of our great country and the presidents that we have had over the years. The second semester will focus on learning each state and its capital as well as where it is located on the map. We will enjoy a treat from each of the states throughout the year.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: A three-ring binder.
