MUSIC THEORY
Grades 7 to 12

This
class is for those who want to learn more about how music works, or for anyone who wants to learn “the rules of the
game” for music composition. This class begins with a brief review of note names, notation and rhythms and will progress
to key signatures, intervals, scales, circle of keys, chromatics and enharmonics. From there, as time allows, the class will
cover syllables, transposition, harmony, and conducting. Most work will be done in class, but some out of class projects will
be assigned.
PREREQUISITE: Some previous experience in instrumental or vocal music is necessary, either by way of group instruction or private lessons.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: staff paper (either loose or in notebook form), pencils with good erasers.
JUNIOR/SENIOR HIGH CHOIR
Grades 7 to 12
Semester Fee: $58
Students will learn choral
singing, to sing in harmony, rhythm, and choreography and music theory. A knowledge of how to read music is helpful, but not
required. A variety of music, including music of faith, will be used. We will have opportunities to minister at Hallstrom
events as well as at other times in the community. More info available at registration.
BEGINNING GUITAR
Grades 3 to 12

Amaze your friends and
torment your enemies!! In fact, just holding a guitar has such a slimming effect that you’ll be unrecognizable. All
you need is a guitar and a willingness to practice during the week.
ADVANCED BAND
Grades 6 to 12
Semester Fee: $72
For those who have completed
beginning and intermediate band, or for anyone who can play a band instrument well, this class will focus on improving technique
and playing various styles of band literature. The most enjoyable aspect of band is being able to play interesting and exciting
music as a group, and that is what this class is all about!
PREREQUISITE: Must have completed beginning and intermediate band or have the equivalent in private lessons.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: A band instrument in good playing condition, metal and foldup music stand.
INTERMEDIATE BAND
Grades 5 to 12
Semester Fee: $72
This
class is a continuation of Beginning Band. Students will learn more notes and more complicated rhythms. Fun, full band arrangements
will be learned throughout the year. Students need to practice 80-100 minutes each week.
PREREQUISITE: For 5th grade and older, students must have completed Beginning Band or have had at least one year of private lessons.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: A band instrument in good playing condition, metal and foldup music stand.
JOYFUL NOISE CHOIR
Grades 1 to 6
Semester Fee: $37
Class Size: Min. 10
The
students will have an opportunity to learn fun and energetic songs to praise the Lord, as well as a choral piece. Other areas
of exploration include basic music theory, harmony, and the study of classical composers.
TINY TOT CHOIR
Ages 3 to 6 years
Semester
Fee: $18
Class Size: Min. 8
The
students will learn lots of fun songs with hand (and often whole body) motions, as well as develop rhythm and listening skills
through a variety of activities. Here’s a wonderful way for young children to learn to praise the Lord in song. Classes
are 1/2 hour long.
