Tuesday P.E. and Sports Classes
 
NOTE: Pay only one Registration Fee per year, rather than per semester, for P.E. classes that only meet outside, weather permitting.
 
CO-ED PHYSICAL EDUCATION
Grades 7 to 12, Grades 4 to 6, Grades 1 to 3
Semester Fee: $48
Class Size: Min. 10, Max. 30
We will focus on a particular sport/game for a 4 to 5 week session. We will cover the basic skills and rules of each sport/game and will also play a game. We will use class time to stretch, do calisthenics, work on skills and drills, and play a game after general skills and rules are learned. My goal is for each student to learn to have fun while exercising, have an exposure to different sports, work together as a team, and to be able to play each sport/game we learn during the year.
REQUIRED ATTIRE: Loose fitting clothing, gym shoes, and water bottle if needed.
 
CO-ED SOFTBALL/FLAG FOOTBALL
Grades 7 to 12
Fee: $2 per class as weather allows
Class Size: Min. 16, Max. 22
We will meet outside until the weather turns cold, then start up in the spring. We will set up teams and play for fun. Attendance will be taken.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: For softball, bring a glove (bats, balls, and bases provided.) Flags are provided for football.
 
CO-ED ULTIMATE FRISBEE
Grades 7 to 12
Semester Fee: $32
Class Size: Min. 8, Max. 20
Meets outside in good weather
REQUIRED ATTIRE: Clothes to play in.
 
CO-ED VOLLEYBALL
Grades 7 to 12
Semester Fee: $35
Class Size: Min. 10, Max 20
This class is for the student who wants to learn the basic skills of volleyball. This is not a traveling team. All skill levels are welcome to participate. Intramural format.
 
CO-ED BEGINNING TENNIS
Grades 4 to 12
Semester Fee: $28
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 16
This class is for the student who wants to learn the basic skills of tennis. Most of class will be spent learning forehand, backhand, serve, and volley. Class meets at tennis courts in the park as weather permits, and only until it gets too cold. Class resumes in April, weather permitting.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Tennis racket, tennis shoes, and water bottle. Coach will supply tennis balls.
 
CO-ED INTERMEDIATE TENNIS
Grades 4 to 12
Semester Fee: $20
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 16
This class is for the student who wants to continue learning through practice and actual games played. Student must be able to keep tennis ball in play. Class meets at tennis courts in the park as weather permits, and only until it gets too cold. Class resumes in April, weather permitting.
PREREQUISITE: Knowledge of basic skills. Please check with Coach for placement if you are not sure.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Tennis racket, tennis shoes, and water bottle. Coach will supply tennis balls.
 
BOYS’ HIGH SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM
Grades 9 to 12
Semester Fee: $48 plus $300 athletic fee
Class Size: Min. 20, Max. 25
Learn basketball, do skills, learn plays, and try out for the team.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: Basketball shoes. Balls provided or bring your own.
 
BOYS’ JR. HIGH BASKETBALL TEAM
Grades 7 to 8
Semester Fee: $2 per practice, plus $230 athletic fee
Class Size: Max. 16
Open to all junior high boys, although tryout may be implemented depending on how many sign up. Preference given to returning players. Practice begins in August and continues until scheduled games are completed. Practices will be geared toward serious, dedicated players interested in competing against other schools.
 
BOYS MIDDLE SCHOOL BASKETBALL TEAM
Grades 5 to 6 (or 10-12 year olds)
Semester Fee: $32 plus $50 athletic fee
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 15
We will teach basic skills and learn how to play as a team. We will have 8 to 10 games scheduled with other 5th & 6th grade boys’ basketball teams in the area. Home games will be played at Rock Church. Boys that play on the team are required to pay a $50 athletic fee and participate in fundraisers.
 
GIRLS’ VARSITY BASKETBALL TEAM
Grades 9 to 12
Semester Fee: $48 plus $225 athletic fee
Class Size: Max. 12
This is for high school girls interested in playing on the girls varsity basketball team. Tryouts will be held in August. We will be competing against other varsity teams. A team commitment is required which involves out-of-town games. Practices are at Temple Baptist on Tuesday mornings and at Rock Church on Thursdays, although there will be additional practices throughout the year.
 
GIRLS’ JV & VARSITY VOLLEYBALL (fall)
Grades 9 to 12
Semester Fee: $50 coaching + $75 athletic
Class Size: Min. 16
Mandatory team try-outs are held in early August, with
ractices starting soon after. The volleyball season runs from late August through early November. Practices are held on both Tuesdays and Thursdays during the season. Both JV and Varsity will play one or two games a week, as well as participate in 3 or 4 tournaments. Playing on the Rockford Fire Girls’ Volleyball team can be a rewarding experience, but does require players to dedicate their time and energy to commitment to the team during the season. Fundraising to cover tournament costs is also necessary.
 
GOLF TEAM (spring)
Grades 9 to 12
Semester Fee: approx. $95*
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 10
The class will consist of practice with plastic golf balls inside from January through mid-March or when weather permits going to outside park area. Other practices during the week will be at a golf practice facility and/or playing 9 holes in preparation for matches. In January and February, class will concentrate on rules and etiquette of golf with quizzes and tests. I will also ask local golf pros to come to class occasionally to give tips and help. Matches will be arranged with other schools and are usually in the afternoons or weekdays.

REQUIRED MATERIALS: Plastic wiffle golf balls and book on USGA golf rules should be paid for by fees. Carpet squares to hit off of. Own set of golf clubs, tees, balls, etc.
 
GIRLS’ VOLLEYBALL TEAM
Grades 7 to 8
Semester Fee: $50, plus $75 athletic
This class provides both beginning instruction for new players and will work on more advanced skills for returning players. This is a team commitment and involves school competition with home and out of town games. The season runs late August through late October. Thursday practices will end after the last game, but Tuesday practices will continue through the end of the semester. Practices will be from 3:00 to 4:00 at Temple Baptist on Tuesdays and Thursdays. If considering playing on this team, it would be highly beneficial to enroll in a volleyball camp over the summer. Brochures will be in sign-up folder at registration. This is a great experience and will be really fun!
