CHEMISTRY
Grades 10 to 12
Semester Fee: $72 (if paid monthly), $69 (if paid in total)
Class Size: Min. 5, Max. 20
This is a full high school level chemistry class, including labs. Among other things, we will study chemical reaction, the inner structure of atoms and molecules, the secrets of the periodic table, and the actions of acids and bases. About 3 to 4 hours of home study time per week will be needed to learn the material. This class can also be taken as an honors level course if desired.
PREREQUISITE: Algebra 1
REQUIRED TEXT: Exploring Creation With Chemistry, 2nd Edition, by Dr. Jay Wile (Apologia Educational Ministries), Solutions and Tests Manual, and a calculator that can do scientific notation.
 
ANATOMY & PHYSIOLOGY
Grades 11 to 12
Semester Fee: $65
Class Size: Min 3, Max. 20
This is an introductory level anatomy and physiology class which will equip the student with a good Christian worldview foundation before taking a college level class. We will explore the 11 major body systems and the awesome creativity which God applied to the human body. Students will need to have or develop good note taking skills and attendance is essential to success. The text will be supplemented with handouts and lecture materials.
PREREQUISITE: Biology
REQUIRED TEXT: Body by Design by Alan Gillen ISBN 0-89051-296-5 published by Master Books.
 
BIOLOGY
Grades 9 to 12
Semester Fee: $80, plus lab fee: $3 fall, $8 spring
Class Size: Min. 8, Max. 16
This is a general biology course taught on the high school level. The course covers a survey of the five biological kingdoms, features of the organisms in each kingdom, classification, the definition of life, an introduction to biochemistry, cell structure and function, cellular reproduction, DNA, protein synthesis, cellular respiration, and genetics. Classes will be lectures and/or labs. Homework will include the following: reading, comprehension questions, write up of lab reports, and labs to be done at home. Home labs include simple experiments using household items. Any unusual items will be provided by instructor. Work outside class will require 4-5 hours per week. Participation in the Hallstrom Spring Academic Fair is required. One parent should accompany each student to class the first day to understand the expectations and requirements for the class.
REQUIRED TEXT: Exploring Creation With Biology, 2nd Edition, Apologia Educational Ministries. ISBN 1-932012-54-0 and Solutions and Tests for Exploring Creation with Biology, 2nd Edition, ISBN 1-932012-55-9. The first edition will not be compatible with the class.
 
EARTH SCIENCE
Grades 8 to 12
Semester Fee: $75*
Class Size: Min. 8, Max. 15
The full-year course studies the earth’s atmosphere, waters, surface, interior, history, and universe. Lab work will be done during class. Study sheets are distributed each class to be answered at home then collected the next week for grading. Weekly reading assignments are done at home. Eight tests per year will be administered in class. Ten percent extra credit will be given for Project Fair exhibits in Earth Science. Each student must fill out study sheets based on their own reading. *Covers all tuition, book rental, lab supplies, fair entry, and copy fees.
REQUIRED TEXT: Textbook is available at registration with the irst assignment which is due August 26 when the new school year begins.
 
LIFE SCIENCE
Grades 7 to 8Semester Fee: $80
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 15
This class will be an adventure in life science. Topics covered will be the human body, bacteria, and cells the first semester and finish the year with plants and animals. Class work will include lectures, dissection, and hands-on activities. Daily assignments will be given requiring 2-3 hours a week to complete. Required work includes test and quizzes, in class comprehensive semester final, lab book, and a project each semester.

AMAZING SCIENCE
Grades 4 to 6
Semester Fee: $55*
Class Size: Min. 6, Max. 22
We will be studying the human body during the fall semester and physical science (simple machines, electricity, and magnetism) in the spring. As we journey through the human body we will discover that we truly are “fearfully and wonderfully made” by God, our Creator. The class will include hands-on activities, games, and lectures. We will learn together why we couldn’t possibly have “formed by chance, random processes.”
REQUIRED TEXT: *Plus a book or copy fee per semester.
 
AMAZING SCIENCE
Grades 1 to 3
Semester Fee: $58
Class Size: Min. 5, Max. 15
First semester we will have a lot of fun while learning about the human body. Students will make a cut-out of their body and add organs they they have colored and labeled. Do you know why haircuts don’t hurt, or exactly where your food goes after you eat? Your child will after this class. Second semester we will cover physical science which will include machines, electricity, gravity, friction, cars, trains, steam engines, etc.
REQUIRED MATERIALS: scissors, glue sticks, pencils, and colored pencils are a must.
