Extracurricular Opportunities

Chapel
Chapel is held in the Sanctuary from 10:00 to 10:25 a.m., every Tuesday that Hallstrom meets, and everyone in the building is expected to attend. This is the most important time of our day at Hallstrom. Chapel provides a time to worship with our worship band and listen to a message from a special guest speaker. Hallstrom families represent many different churches from the Rockford area, and we rejoice that Christians from many different backgrounds come together to rejoice in the Lord and all that He has given us. Hallstrom would not exist without the Lord, His blessings, and His guidance.

Student Council
Student Council meets on the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:00 to 10:25 a.m. in the Gym. All 8th through 12th graders are invited to join. Involvement in the student council offers the older students at Hallstrom many opportunities to grow in leadership and service to others. Student Council members sell pizza, drinks, and snacks on Tuesdays. Proceeds from these sales fund the Spring EXPO and Hallstrom Merit Scholarships. Student Council events have included a barn dance, a winter formal, a ski trip, game nights, and several community service projects as part of the student council's H.I.S. (Homeschoolers Impacting Society) program. Community service projects vary from year to year but have included the Hike for Life, packages/cards sent to those serving in our military, food pantries, Safe Families, and other outreaches to our community.

Yearbook
For more than 25 years, Hallstrom students have captured co-op memories and created beautiful yearbooks. The Hallstrom yearbook can be personalized and ordered online. In conjunction with this effort, a professional photographer offers (optional) student photo packages for parents to purchase.

EXPO – Spring Project Fair and Quiz Bowls
Every spring, Hallstrom provides students with an opportunity to display projects, participate in our annual quiz bowls, and more! Students have the opportunity to earn awards for projects and prizes in the quiz bowls. Hallstrom families are encouraged to invite their friends and families to visit and see what their students have been working on all year!

Christmas and Spring Programs
Each December and May, most Hallstrom music and performing arts classes participate in performances to showcase all that they have been working on. Participation is expected for all students enrolled in a participating music or performing arts class. Family and friends are welcome and encouraged to attend!

Drama Production
Hallstrom offers participation in a spring musical for interested 4th through 8th graders. While Hallstrom does not currently offer any theater options for high schoolers, we do hope to have this as an option again in the future.

Honors Program
This program is held during the last Chapel of May to honor students enrolled in high school classes who have excelled in either academic or elective classes during the school year. Students are nominated by their teachers for these “Certificates of Exemplary Achievement.” The Honors Program culminates with the presentation of Hallstrom Merit Award Scholarships to Hallstrom high school students who have been selected based on Christian character, service to others, and academic achievement.

Graduation Ceremony
Any student who has attended a Hallstrom class during his/her high school years and has successfully completed his/her parents’ requirements for high school graduation may participate in this ceremony. Seniors and their parents begin planning the graduation ceremony in the fall. Graduation is usually scheduled for a Saturday in May following the last day of classes.

Rockford F.I.R.E. Athletic Programs
Hallstrom offers several competitive sports teams for students including girls’ volleyball, boys’ basketball, girls' basketball, and flag football. At this time, our flag football is limited to students who are current students at Hallstrom. F.I.R.E. stands for Faith, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence. More information can be found under the "Rockford F.I.R.E." tab.

Field Trips
Hallstrom's field trip coordinators offer a variety of field trips for Hallstrom families to learn, grow, and explore together. Recent field trips have included the Milwaukee Art Museum, Lego Store, Rockford Airport, Brookfield Zoo, and numerous architectural tours.

Competitions
Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Hallstrom is honored to be chosen to participate in two national contests sponsored by the VFW: The Voice of Democracy for high school students and Patriot’s Pen for 6th – 8th graders. Entries are due at the end of October. Topics and more information become available when Hallstrom classes begin or visit www.vfw.com.
