Extracurricular Opportunities

CHAPEL (Mandatory for everyone in the building at 10:00 a.m. Tuesdays)
Hallstrom seeks to glorify God in all that we do. Chapel is held in the Sanctuary from 10:00 to 10:25 a.m. each Tuesday. This is the most important time of our day at Hallstrom. Hallstrom families represent many different churches from the Rockford area. We rejoice that Christians from many different backgrounds are willing to come, to work, to fellowship, and to encourage one another in the Lord to make this co-op possible. Thank you to all who participate in Chapel. Hallstrom would not exist without the Lord, His blessings, and His guidance.

STUDENT COUNCIL
Student Council meets the fourth Tuesday of each month from 10:00 to 10:25 a.m. in the Gym. All 8 -12 graders are invited to join. Involvement in Student Council offers older students at Hallstrom many opportunities to grow in leadership and service to others. Older Students, our younger students and parents are watching you and are very generous in their praise of those of you who are showing, by your character and good deeds, your devotion to Christ. Student Council members sell pizza, water bottles, and other items each Tuesday. Proceeds from these sales sponsor the Spring EXPO and Hallstrom Merit Scholarships awarded at the Honors Program. Student Council events include hay rides, gym nights, winter and/or spring dances, and community service projects through H.I.S. (Homeschoolers Impacting Society). Community service projects vary from year to year but have included the Hike for Life, packages/cards sent to those serving in our military, food pantries, Safe Families, and other outreaches to our community.

YEARBOOK
For more than 25 years, Hallstrom students have captured co-op memories and created beautiful yearbooks. The Hallstrom yearbook can be personalized and ordered online. In conjunction with this effort, a professional photographer offers (optional) student photo packages for parents to purchase.

EXPO – SPRING PROJECT FAIR & QUIZ BOWLS
This is a great opportunity for students to display projects, participate in academic bowls, and more! EXPO takes place in the spring. Students can receive awards for projects and can earn cash prizes in the quiz bowls. Invite your family and friends who might be interested in Hallstrom to see these great projects and watch the exciting bowls!

CLASS PERFORMANCES (Christmas and Spring)
At the end of each semester, the Hallstrom music and performing arts classes present a program open to families and friends. Note that if your students are in a music or performing arts class at Hallstrom, participation in these performances is part of their class requirements. Mark your calendars!

DRAMA PRODUCTION
One musical per year is currently being put on by Hallstrom 4th-8th grade students. We hope to have a drama department featuring middle and high school students again in the future.

HONORS PROGRAM
This program is held during the last Chapel in May to honor students enrolled in high school courses who have excelled in either academic or elective classes during the school year. Students are nominated by their teachers for these “Certificates of Exemplary Achievement.” The Honors Program culminates with the presentation of Hallstrom Merit Award Scholarships to Hallstrom high school students who have been selected based on Christian character, service to others, and academic achievement.

GRADUATION CEREMONY
Any student who has attended a Hallstrom class during his/her high school years and has successfully completed his/her parents’ requirements for high school graduation may participate in this ceremony. Seniors and their parents begin planning the graduation ceremony in the fall. Graduation is usually scheduled for a Saturday in May following the last day of classes.

ROCKFORD FIRE SPORTS TEAMS
Hallstrom offers several competitive sports teams for students in grades 5 – 12 including girls’ volleyball and boys’ basketball.  FIRE stands for Faith, Integrity, Respect, and Excellence. See Rockford Fire link on the side menu for more information.

FIELD TRIPS
Watch your announcements and the calendar for these great trips! If you would like to coordinate a field trip, see a Hallstrom Board member. Recent field trips have included the Milwaukee Art Museum, Lego Store, Rockford Airport, Brookfield Zoo, and numerous architectural tours.
